DIE ON A ROPE

Topshop blazer, American Apparel t-shirt dress, Miu Miu platform halter clogs, Fendi sunglasses, gifted butterfly knife pendant from Blood Milk, vintage accessories.

I can't begin to describe how stoked I am on this necklace, not to mention Blood Milk's other creations. Unparalleled in their quality and uniqueness, J.L. Schnabel's designs will appeal to fans of Pamela Love and Chris Habana alike; however, with a penchant for the macabre, the supernatural, and the classically beautiful, Schnabel is in a category of her own. The detail on this butterfly knife necklace is outstanding. The knife is real and fully-functioning (razor-sharp blade and all), and like many other Blood Milk pieces, is oxidized to perfection. In addition to the heart-and-swords charm above the knife, there is a tiny religious pendant on the other end of the vintage brass chain that lays on the wearer's back. Little features like these affirm the obvious: this is a special piece, painstakingly crafted by a true artist.

You never have to worry about wearing a design you know is a beaten and dead horse, because Schnabel's creations exist in very limited quantities -- once they're gone, they're gone, and she moves onto something else amazing instead of rehashing the same thing again. Expect to see many more Blood Milk treasures featured on here in the near future.

About time I debuted these Miu clogs! They are worth the hype in every way: remarkably comfortable, sufficiently sky-high, and garner tons of compliments (while my husband and I were having ice cream out front, one passer-by remarked, "Those are fantastic, where in 1975 did you get them?!).

Don't let the towering wood heel on these beauties intimidate you -- the gargantuan platform compensates so you don't feel like you're on a ski slope. I love the rich camel hue .. unfortunately, I'm STILL in search of The Perfect Brown Bag.

The unsinkable Jas M.B. leather tote.

That's all for tonight ... be well. &hearts

A WHITER SHADE OF PALE

Natural printed t-shirt courtesy of Obesity & Speed, Gap "1969" denim vest, Ann Demeulemeester s/s '10 covered multi buckle wedges, silk Fendi scarf, Furla pebbled leather bag, Ray Ban aviators, American Apparel biker shorts, Bebe bowler hat, tons of custom sterling silver & white gold accessories.

The weather in Philly has been unbearably humid for the past three days. It's been tempting to not walk around in a bikini top and play in the fire hydrants with the local kids.

I've had this Furla bag for at least five years and it has held up beautifully. With its lovely pebbled leather, thick strap, and striking chrome hardware, it has absolutely earned its keep. I love the round buckles at the bottoms of the straps and its charming pseudo-shapelessness.

I haven't worn my all-time favorite kicks since we got home from the last tour. I definitely missed them! They're by far the most comfortable shoes in my collection, not to mention very multi-seasonal.

These boots are so deliciously black; they must be triple-dyed or something. The only downside of this is that the dye sometimes rubs off on your feet, so don't plan on wearing them on the fifth date, haha! It's a small price to pay for the unexcelled quality of Ann D's leather.

Glasses are prescription Ray-Bans. I've had this vest for quite some time. Unlike most if not all of my others, I left it virtually untouched, save for this original Procol Harum patch I found on eBay several years ago:

My hands/veins looked so gross yesterday from the sweltering heat. Regardless, I piled on a ton of my silver statement pieces to finish off this ensemble. Right arm bracelets: custom snake, custom opal cuff from my mother-in-law, custom "squiggle" cuff from Donald Pywell; rings L to R: Pamela Love cross, XL lapis w/ white gold band (gift from JF), sterling/onyx frog knuckle ring. Left arm: bracelets are Tiffany's, Juicy Couture, family heirlooms from Bobby's side, custom sterling Bobby brought home from Europe, Swiss Army watch, small leather studded cuff; rings L to R: ram skull (gift from Summer Adeline), large custom "armor" ring, my engagement ring & wedding band. I'm ready to get a color change for this nailpolish ...

Water ice is the quintessential Philadelphia summer dessert. Or if you're like me, a daily necessity. Yesterday they were out of my favorite cotton candy flavor, so I settled for pineapple.

I actually really hate this hat, but it seemed fitting with the rest of the outfit. This photo was taken in the reflection of some van window; I thought it came out sort of interesting. The sterling silver cross earring was a gift from Jinx Dawson of Coven. Once again, I would like to note that I, my husband, and his colleagues and/or friends do not endorse any anti-Christian ideals whatsoever. Here is Jinx with her bandmates on the album cover of Coven's 1969 LP, Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls:

Very beautiful woman! She reminds me a little of Electric Wizard's guitarist, Liz Buckingham. Coven's album covers were shockingly blasphemous for their time. I have a lot of other interesting images of Ms. Dawson & Coven in my '69-'72 photo collection.

The Fendi scarf was a 23rd birthday gift from my mom. I utilize it in many ways: hair, purse, neck, wrist ... it's a great length and one of my favorites in my [unmanageably] vast collection.

Procol Harum's 1967 classic, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" from their s/t release of the same year. Along with Family and Gentle Giant, Procol Harum are one of my longtime favorite progressive bands of this era.

Additionally, I've received several emails about link exchanges. I am always open to link exchanges for my blogroll; if you are interested in swapping links with me, please comment or shoot me an email at halcoholic@gmail.com.

I'd like to thank my husband for his ceaseless dedication in helping me maintain this site. Despite his extraordinarily busy schedule, he always makes time to patiently snap photos for me and ensure they turn out in a presentable manner. Considering he's never used a DSLR before in his life, he's been doing a wonderful job and it means the world to me.

Hope everyone is having at least a tolerable Monday; try to stay cool (in all senses of the word)! &hearts

DIRTY SOUTH

Today Bobby and I went to South Street, which is Philly's much more ghetto equivalent of the Village or Georgetown. It is the home of quirky tourists, plenty o' posers, body piercing and tattoo enthusiasts, and 13-year-old schoolchildren shopping without parents' consent. It also makes for some cool shopping, with its plethora of drag stores, costume jewelry, funky art, head shops, and vintage boutiques.

I wore a pretty similar outfit today; It's been my virtual uniform for the past week or so. I'm standing outside of a vintage consignment shop called Retrospect, where I found the most incredible 70's brown bomber jacker with paisley lining. I'll post it soon.

Bebe leather jacket, Rick Owens cardigan, DIY shredded Windhand shirt, shredded black denim shorts by No Future, leggings (?), Ann Demeulemeester boots, Balenciaga sunglasses, Fendi scarf as headband, Margiela bag, Pamela Love & Chanel jewelry.

Tattooed Mom's, or more affectionately known as "T-Mom's," is the local watering hole for Philly's steeziest.

Bobby wears: Alpha flight jacket, Pentagram t-shirt, Tripp NYC jeans, and his own high leather zipper boots.

Dudes Boutique (621 South St, 215-928-0661) is a leather goods store where, true to its moniker, I always find something leather and good. I got this amazing blue tooled leather briefcase by a company called WaBags that I absolutely love; I use it as my laptop bag on tour. They carry very high quality leather for reasonable prices, and guarantee their products for a year and will fix them free of charge if anything goes wrong. The owner's name is Dave and, also true to the store's moniker, he is the nicest dude.

These flowered Docs would look great with a 70s print dress and a courderoy blazer.

Obviously, I bought the patent green Docs. They're electric green in person; my camera sort of failed to capture their true awesomeness.

Amazing studded leather jacket that was custom designed by the owner. I wish I had gotten a close-up of the zippers; the teeth were all alternating colors. So cool.

I used to go to this shop SoHo (521 South Street, (215) 440-9922) when I was like 13 to get my ears pierced. I'd always come out with one extra hole in my ear, and an awesome t-shirt or piece of gaudy costume jewelry. SoHo it is not, but the cool owners are aware of the tongue-in-cheek nature of this store. They carry a wide selection of trendy accessories, cheeky shirts, and I believe will still pierce your ears for 8 bones, LOL. I always drop in here when I'm on South Street and usually come out with a satisfyingly kitschy goodie. Tonight it was a big oversized yellow Wu-Tang t-shirt.

Belt overload! Love the neon colors; it reminded me of FRUiTS. I was tempted to buy the gold-studded white leather 3-row one for myself.

Lots o' trendy shirts. Note the cool oversized print AC/DC one.

Knitted hats and canvas bags.

An overdose of a case full of studs and spikes. I'd still rather have the Givenchy spiked headband, but you can fashion a much cheaper one with this shit!

WWJD? Tell you to buy like 5 of these fashion rosaries and look rly fly.

Crash Bang Boom (528 South 4th Street, (215) 928-1123), formerly Zipperhead, was THE store for punk rock essentials when I was trying to out-stud and out-spike everyone in the Western hemisphere. Years ago, before they became popular, Zipperhead was the only place I could get pegged jeans. Years later, I still love visiting this shop. The photos basically say it all.

Printed pumps & mary janes

The gothic lolita kicks on the top shelf can look pretty cool these days if paired with an ultra-feminine dress for juxtaposition.

Cosmetics & sparkly eyeball ornaments.

Your new girlfriends.

Tons of punk shirts ... DIY inspiration for me.

I want that Murder Junkies shirt with the John Wayne Gacy clown print!!

Lots of gaudy creepers ... love it.

I have a business meeting on Wednesday to talk about my future merchandizing endeavor ... very excited!

Also, Pentagram is touring again in mid-March and we'll be hitting up the West Coat. You can see the tour dates by clicking on the Pentagram icon in the Affiliates section on the right. See you in LA-LA land!
