Someone emailed asking what I look like without makeup.
I don't wear a lot of makeup on a regular basis. I long grew out of the heavy cat-eye, Divine-style eyeshadow of my punk rock youth.
The framed "Taste" flyer in the background is an original. "Taste" was the first project of Rory Gallagher and I highly recommend their first LP. It's sort of very raw, very dirty blues-influenced late 60s rock n roll. I gave it to my brother for Christmas 2 years ago and he also loves it.
Anyway, I apologize for the blurriness of the photos in my last post. I finally figured out the camera, so my next ones will not be this way.

I have to say these Ann D's are hands-down my new favorite shoes. I haven't been able to take them off since I got them. They are so comfortable and are of incredible quality. They are just badass in every sense of the word.
I also recently ordered this life-sized crow skull neclace from Etsy, and it is the most gorgeous and heaviest piece of silver I own. It is so beautifully designed and came with a thick, heavy silver chain. The artist's username on Etsy is billyblue22 and he makes stunning pieces.
I have some exciting news coming up about a halcoholic project and someone I will be collaborating with on a line of accessories. Stay tuned for more deets.
In my new Lindsey Thornburg knitted striped dress from Bona Drag. Unfortunately they're both out of stock right now, but you can pre-order for their next shipment and I highly recommend picking one up. I'm lovin' my Snapple green tea. We have like, a case in the fridge right now.
Since we're supposed to get what my mother-in-law dubbed a "snowicane," we stocked up on movies and food for what will surely be a housebound weekend. Stay warm, everyone! xo
Okay, I'm not a huge LV fan, especially not of those brown logo-ed canvas bags that were ALL OVER THE PLACE about 4 years ago. They're still selling really bad knock-offs in Philly tourist shops. Anyway, when I saw LV's spread in Vogue last month and the model was wearing this "Sunrise" bag in orange with the obnoxiously huge foxtail charm, my heart pitter-pattered. Apparently it's gotten horrible reviews, but so did those amazingly trippy Sonia Rykiel "Billy" platforms from a few seasons back, and I still think about them more than is probably healthy.This bag isn't something I'd normally pick out, but its slouchiness and the color fade really caught my eye. I called LV and priced it, and while it may be a little much for a canvas bag, it would make a really ostentatious incredibly functional diaper bag. Baby shower hint, Mom? Just kidding. A little. I love you.
Another choice would be this "Pandora" bag by Givenchy, which, contrary to popular belief, looks really incredible when it's on (tried it on in front of the huge mirrors at Joan Shepp and immediately called my mother to tell her how good it looked). Like the LV bag, it also comes in a cornucopia of colors. It's also cheaper, and it's leather. Not as "LOOK AT ME" as the LV, but huge enough to meet my standards and also very functional.
Here is sort of an FAQ, a collection of some questions I've been emailed recently ... since some of them were asked more than once, I figured I'd post them here. I picked 15 questions that are pretty commonly asked and some other odd or inappropriate ones I didn't post. Feel free to email with any others.
1. What part of Philly are you from? Are you originally from Philly?
- We live in South Philly right now and I have lived in the Philadelphia area my entire life, though I was not born here.
2. How tall are you?
- 5'4"
3. How old is your husband?
- 56
4. How long has your husband been playing music?
- My husband has been a professional musician since he was 10 years old.
5. How do you style your hair when it's down?
- I braid it when it's wet and sleep on it, then take them out in the morning.
6. How did you quit smoking? How long were you smoking before you quit?
- Nicorette, tobacco pouches, and a lot of patience. I smoked for nearly 8 years.
7. Do you work out?
- No.
8. What do you do for work?
- My husband works. I am a freelance writer and a trained cosmetologist, and I also do graphic design on the side.
9. Is it true that KISS tried to buy Pentagram songs and your husband wouldn't sell them?
- Yes.
10. What nationality are you and what nationality is your husband?
- I am Norwegian and Italian, he is Jewish.
11. How many tattoos do you have and what are they? Who did your tattoos? Do you have any piercings?
- I'm not sure how many I have. I have a half sleeve and about 4 or 5 other smaller ones. They're all pretty traditional designs. I've gone to a lot of different artists but most of them were done by T at Philadelphia Eddie's. I have both nostrils pierced and my septum pierced but I rarely wear jewelry anymore. I've had more piercings in the past that I've taken out over time.
12. Where do you shop?
- I shop mostly online, sites like net-a-porter.com and thecorner.com. I get a lot of stuff on eBay (except for leather bags which are usually never a good idea to buy on eBay, if I got $5 for every fake Givenchy Nightingale I saw listed I'd be a multi millionaire). I get some other stuff like pants and t-shirts at angryyoungandpoor.com. I've been a customer there for about 10 years and they have great basic clothes for cheap. Joan Shepp is probably my favorite shop in Philly. I also commission some local designers to make stuff for me.
13. What is your skincare routine? Have you always had good skin?
- Just Dove soap & moisturizer. I haven't always had good skin. I think the only real solution to acne is to wait it out until you're older. Unless it's really bad, then Accutane really works but I understand it badly dries out your skin.
14. When is the documentary coming out? How did you feel about cameras following you around to the doctor and stuff?
- Summer 2010. I don't like being photographed or filmed like Bobby does, but I didn't mind the cameras. The filmmakers are good friends of ours and always worked with our schedule. After awhile you just sort of forget they're around, unless it's an interview.
15. What kind of music do you listen to? What are your favorite bands?
- A lot of '68-'72 hard rock and heavy metal, a lot of punk rock from my youth. Some of my favorites are Aerosmith, Uriah Heep, Captain Beyond, Black Sabbath, Budgie, Charged G.B.H., Bathory, Oxymoron, Veruca Salt.
My husband went to go buy me a new memory card for my camera so I'll have some eye c@ndy in the next few days.
Really sweet purple Exploited shirt I found on eBay. Unline Lindsay Lohan, when I wear a shirt with a band logo, it usually means I listen to them.

The day was Thursday the 8th of October and after our long journey from Bratislava to Zlin, we found the place were the mighty Pentagram were going to appear!! After entering the Masters Of Rock Café, where the gig was going to take place, a place in which many people where there drinking beers and the atmosphere was decorated with Manowar posters from past gigs, I saw a figure fooling around but I didn’t pay attention to who he was. After a couple of minutes though, I realized that he was the godfather of doom metal and one of the most special voices that heavy metal has shown: Bobby Liebling!!!!!!
Without wasting any time I rushed towards him for an autograph and for a picture. Then he offered me a sit in order to talk and have some coffee together. So, I found a chance to make a sort of an interview with him.
First of all I would like to mention that he is so calm and polite and his words and face provide kindness. The first question that I asked him was how come he is touring again and specially in Europe and why did he chose Zlin as a place for a show instead of Prague which is the capital of Czech Republic. He replied that he visits for first time Europe and that this is quite exciting for him and that the choice of the city wasn’t his but his manager’s. Also he told me that he visited Europe because this was a vision of the past and to prepare doom metal fans about the new forthcoming album which will se the light of day during next March!!! Then I asked him about his new line up and what happened with the old legends like Victor Griffin (1979, 1983-1988, 1993-1996) and Joe Hasselvander (1983-2002), guitar, bass (1999-2002). What he replied was that with Victor they still love each other but unfortunately Joe is a different person… About the new line up he told me that they rule, thing that I really understood few hours later at their show. The new line up consists of the following: Gary Isom – Drums, originally drummer for the US doomsters Unorthodox but he used to play for Pentagram as well back to the 1994, Mark Ammen – Bass, also from Unorthodox and Russ Strahan – Guitar. He told the best words for them and that he is quite happy to be collaborating with such musicians.
After all these, I asked him what happened back then in the 70’s what was all these bands that he was involved to, his main influences and the unfortunate and sad facts for him visiting the prison. What he replied about that was his strongest influence ever still nowadays is Blue Cheer.He also told me that he is still a huge fan and about few years ago he accomplished his dream and he met them. Now, as far as the 70’s are concerned Stone Bunny was just a moniker in order to play some rehearsals and nothing more, Bedemon was kind of more serious but only few demo tapes are saved. About that I informed him that there was a re-issue on vinyl by the Black Widow records and he disagreed totally by saying that he lever gave permission for that. Then Death Row was the first moniker that then changed into the tremendous Pentagram and the rest is history. After that, I asked him if he was influenced at all by Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath both in the singing and clothing (crosses and stuff) but also phrases that we all are keen of like Allright now!, Oh Yeah, etc. His answer was clear: Not at all!! And he continued by saying that Victor was a huge Black Sabbath fan and he did plan all these parts in their songs and he has nothing to do with that.
At the end I kept one pleasant and one sad fact. I will start with the sad first which is Bobby’s past where he was involved with drugs and jail because of them but I will continue with the most important and most pleasant of all, that he has quite all these stuff and he deeply regrets as he told me with tears in his eyes because now he can understand the real meaning of life, everyday and in every live show when he sees the people’s response his emotions grow more and more and he cries while he thanks the crowd. Also he didn’t stop saying about his new love, which according to his sayings was gift from God in order to keep him alive. He counts 3 years of relationship with her and also 3 years without any drugs.
After this short interview and while I was shaking of sitting near the god of doom, he left in order to dress himself and to prepare for the show which would start in about 45 minutes. He said goodbye and we re arranged our meeting on stage.
So, after few minutes the dream continued. The mighty Pentagram appeared on stage starting with Wheel of Fortune and continuing with Forever My Queen. What I saw was an incredible movement of Bobby, an excellent musical performance by the rhythm section of Unorthodox and an unbelievable guitar play by Russ which left me speechless. No words to describe the feeling but also the response of the people which had the same luck to be present there like me. Bobby showed his best and also his appetite to live and sing his and our favourite songs. Excellent choice of songs, including Petrified, Living in a ram’s head, All your sins and encore with The sing of the wolf!!!!!
Conclusion: Different emotions surrounded me during the whole event including the internview and the live show and many things were clearly realized like there’s not anything more important that life and joy. Hopefully this was also realized by Bobby who we hope to continue giving us the doom!! God bless him!!
